Residential installation

Built for more than better Wi-Fi.

The brief: connect a home with automation, CCTV, storage and AI—while keeping more sensitive processing local. A dedicated rack brings the core equipment together, with connectivity planned throughout the home.

Fast connections, thoughtfully placed

A 10G local network connects the system, with wireless access points positioned to reduce coverage gaps. Multiple wired network points in each room give flexibility for devices today and room for changing needs.

More control over data

The NAS stores files and computer backups locally, reducing reliance on third-party cloud storage. A dedicated AI server processes sensitive workloads locally, with data handling determined by the applications and configuration.

A home that works as a system

A customised smart home server sits on top of the KNX backbone. The installation also includes CCTV and a UPS for backup power; runtime depends on the connected load.

Inside the installation

Fibre handoff outside: The provider’s incoming fibre terminates at an outdoor optical termination box (OTB), keeping the provider’s cable outside the home and creating a defined handoff to the internal installation.
Router, switches & wireless access points: Routing and switching support the 10G local network. Access point locations are planned to minimise Wi-Fi blind spots; coverage and speeds depend on the building and connected devices.
NAS, backups & self-hosted services: The NAS provides local file storage and computer backups, reducing reliance on services such as Google Drive. For more advanced use, the local infrastructure also runs self-hosted apps and services. A dedicated AI server supports local processing.
Custom smart home server & KNX: The custom server adds an integration layer above the KNX backbone. Its role is to bring the home’s controls and automation together.
CCTV & backup power: CCTV forms part of the home’s technology infrastructure. The UPS provides temporary power for connected equipment during interruptions.
